Homegrown Mirakl Catalog Automation, No Upgrade Required
Consistently build better listings fast.
You made it onto Mirakl. Your growth is positioned for its next level 🚀 But what on earth are these catalog uploads?
Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Saks said yes.
Your product upload sheets keep getting rejected.
Dropship marketplaces now drive the majority of online sales. Getting these listings right isn't optional.
Automation you own, not subscribe to, is the answer.
We got you. If you are reading this, it’s likely because you know there has to be a better way to get your products from your Shopify store listed and optimized for your partnered retailer sites.
Why does manual catalog prep for Mirakl partnerships take so long?
Despite the Mirakl Connect integration with Shopify, you still have to upload catalog submissions to the merchant platforms within Mirakl manually.
Step 1: Download the retailer’s template
Step 2: Understand the retailer’s requirements
Step 3: Translate your product details to the retailer’s requirements
Step 4: Upload your prepared listings
Step 5: Pull your hair out when listings get rejected
And because these upload templates vary retailer to retailer, each having their own standards, formats, and data compliance, your Shopify data is not 1:1 and requires tailoring… manual tailoring, fat-fingering, copy/pasting for hours upon hours.
This manual process is subject to a high degree of data integrity issues and gaps that could get your listings rejected.
Rejected listings will cost you time, eat into your sales window, and impact your sell-through rate. Sell-through KPIs are how retailers decide whether to weight you higher or lower in subsequent selling periods and whether or not they will ultimately place a legit wholesale order with your brand.
There's a better way. Best Buds built a SKILL that automates this whole workflow inside a client's existing tech stack. Case study below.
What’s the best way to automate and optimize your Shopify listing for Mirakl retailers?
In my opinion, the best AI tool you can leverage is the one you already use in your business: an agent or agents you built to your brand’s standards, owned and contained within your own closed environment.
Your other options are the AI upgrades your dropship platform is selling for a monthly fee.
The allure is that these AI catalog tools speed up the work by enriching your data. However, these tools operate outside your closed brand system, enriching your data by extracting details from your images, pulling information from the internet, and inferring product attributes. It’s flashy and fast. It's also a real risk for brands whose PDPs are an extension of the customer experience.
A guessed material composition, a slightly off-color name, or a scraped description that doesn't match your brand voice are errors that ship straight to a retailer customers trust to represent you correctly.
For cult and premium modern consumer brands, PDP accuracy isn't something to play AI roulette with. Every guess an outside tool makes is a brand decision you didn't get to make.
Build it in-house. Train the agent on your brand. Point it back to your core PIM source, and you get accuracy across every channel for less than the upgrade would have cost you.
What Best Buds Built for a Client Selling on Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, and Saks
Nothing explodes SKU count like a fashion brand selling across multiple departments and categories. With a team of three, this particular client typically spent weeks producing tailored listing uploads for Mirakl partnerships, only to have their best sellers rejected. The resulting level of troubleshooting and lost sales potential made the effort feel like a losing battle.
But walking away from the channel wasn't an option.
In 2014, marketplaces made up 40% of global online sales. By 2024, that number rose to 67%.
Marketplaces aren't a side channel anymore. They're where commerce is happening. Getting the listings right stopped being optional.
Increasing the operating budget to adopt new AI tools was also off the table.
So we used what they already had and built a custom workflow with their existing Claude plan. It took a few weeks to implement, trial, test, and iterate, but we nailed it in a way that will onboard them onto any marketplace.
The SKILL takes their Shopify product and inventory exports, and outputs a clean, upload-ready file for each retailer.
What it does not do: infer, guess, or scrape. Every mapping decision is made by the brand team once, then remembered for every future run. If a product is missing a required attribute, the workflow flags it and asks. The brand answers. The answer becomes part of the stored context and memory.
Weeks of prep became an hour of review.
How One SKILL Powers Mirakl, Shopify, and Wholesale
The most valuable part of this process isn't the file that comes out. It's the questions it forces the brand to answer.
For this particular client, our first run with the SKILL resulted in a massive Shopify cleanup of product data, filling in missing attributes, building standardized, consistent, trustworthy data at the source.
A workflow that surfaces every gap in your product data, instead of quietly filling it in with a guess, pushes PIM and PDP cleanup back to where it belongs inside your own system. Your Shopify catalog gets more complete. Your product attributes get more consistent. Your team stops re-answering the same questions every launch.
And because the workflow runs on your own data, the same setup that generates your Mirakl files can produce Shopify import files, wholesale line sheets, and any other channel export you need.
The catalog prep gets faster. The catalog itself gets better.
If your team is still copy-pasting product data into marketplace templates, that's the workflow to automate first. It pays for itself the first time you avoid a rejected upload the week before a launch. And it keeps paying every time your PDPs get sharper because of it.
Do you know how many hours your team spends on catalog prep? And do you know why your listings fail when they fail? If marketplace operations are a pain point for your brand, we can help.
